Sub-Zero Repair in Hale, Denver

One of Denver's East neighbourhoods, and one of the places where a built-in put in during the first kitchen remodel is still the one running.

Hands seating a fan motor in its white shroud into an open machine compartment, the dirty original with its leads lying on the floor mat beside four screws

Hale is low brick, mid-century, and remodelled in waves rather than all at once. That is why the cabinets here are of every generation at the same time: a 500 Series still working in one house, a 600 fitted in the nineties two doors down, a Classic cabinet in the one that was taken back to the studs.

Which means the first job on a Hale call is not diagnosis. It is reading the plate, because a defrost part for one of those cabinets will not fit the other two, and the difference between a part on the van and a part on order is that one line of text.

The niches are the second thing. A cabinet fitted into an opening cut for it forty years ago has whatever clearance the carpenter left it, and a condenser that cannot breathe behaves exactly like a condenser that is failing. The grille comes off before anything is condemned.

What is actually installed here

  • Full-size built-ins in original niches, usually the only refrigeration in the house
  • A second cabinet in the basement or the garage, demoted when the kitchen was redone
  • Panel-ready fronts fitted during a remodel, on doors that now need a shove to catch

The oldest working units on these blocks are 500 Series cabinets. If the plate names R-12, read what the refrigerant line means . The next stop on the same round is Crestmoor .

  • Our bin was filling with cubes fused into one lump every couple of days. He diagnosed a lazy harvest cycle and a bin sensor covered in film. Both handled, though he came at the very end of the window.

  • Water kept collecting under the crisper drawers of our brick ranch remodel. A blocked drain tube, not the new machine I feared. Twenty minutes, and honest advice about its age.

  • The undercounter freezer in the garage stopped keeping anything firm once the afternoons warmed up. He found the fan shroud cracked and airflow leaking past the coil. New shroud, and it copes with the heat now.

Follow-ups

Do you carry parts for older cabinets on the van in Hale?
The parts that fail most on older cabinets travel with us: seals, fan motors, defrost heaters, limits and sensors. Anything beyond that is ordered against your model and serial rather than guessed at, because a part for the wrong revision of a cabinet is an expensive way to lose a week. Read the plate out when you call.
Is the whole of Hale inside your round?
Yes, all of it. Hale sits on the east-side round that Sub-Zero Repair Service Denver runs daily, alongside Belcaro and Crestmoor, so a call placed in the morning generally gets an afternoon window rather than a date next week. Vans run every day, 8 am to 8 pm, and the phone on (720) 770-4189 is picked up at any hour.

Two ways in, and nothing to fill in

Give us the model number and what the cabinet is holding. That is usually enough to know which circuit is at fault before anyone is dispatched — and which parts belong on the van.
